EXAMPLE 2

In a plane, add a 150 N force at 300 and -50 N force at 900 using the (a) parallelogram Law (b) the triangle law.

Solution

(a) By the Law of Parallelogram

The resultant of + is . measures to the chosen scale 141 N with inclination qx = 80 or 3680

(b) By the Law of triangle of vector addition

The resultant of + is with || = 135 N   and      qx = 10.890

EXAMPLE 3

In a plane, subtract 200 N, - 3000 from 170 N, 450

Solution

To the 170 N, 450 Force add the negative of 200 N, - 3000 obtaining a resultant force of 380 N and qx = 600. All angles are measured with respect to the x-axis.

= +

= 380 N and qx = 600
