6. 3 The 15th Amendment

In 1866, the Republicans in the Congress proposed the fifteenth amendment to the constitution. This amendment forbade racial discrimination during elections. This amendment was ratified in 1870. The southern states were also required to ratify the amendment as a condition to re-admit them in the Union.
