Example 15

Find the equation of a straight line having x- and y- intercepts 3 and -2 respectively.

Solution :

We have a = 3 and b = -2 then

-2x + 3y = 1 i.e. 2x - 3y + 1 = 0 (general form)

Example 16

f (t) = 4.5 [ sin p t + ˝ sin 2p t ] then show that

Solution :

f (t) = 4.5 [ sin p t + ˝ sin 2 p t ]

\

= 4.5 [ sin (2p + pt) + ˝ sin ( 4p + 2 pt) ]

= 4.5 [ sin (2 p + pt) + ˝ sin 2 ( 2 p + 2 pt) ]

since sin2 ( 2 p + 2 pt) = sin p ..... periodic function

= 4.5 [ sin pt + ˝ sin 2pt ]
