Example An Indian purchased a cycle for Rs .1040. He paid this amount with notes of denomination of 20, 50 and 100. He gave as many as Rs. 50 as double the number of notes of Rs. 100 and as many as of Rs. 20 as three times of the notes of Rs.100. Find the number of notes of different denominations given by him.
Solution : Suppose he gave x notes of Rs. 100 while paying. Therefore he must have given 2 x notes of Rs. 50 and 3 x notes of Rs. 20. The total cost of the cycle, he paid was Rs. 1040.
100 x + 50 ´
2 x + 20 ´
3 x = 1040
100 x + 100 x + 60 x = 1040
260 x = 1040
x = 4
