Table of Contents List of Characters Major Character King Henry VI The son of Henry V and heir to the crown of England and France. He is a baby at the time of his father’s death and a youth of tender years at his coronation. He lacks the strength of character and the experience to keep his factious noblemen united. Lord Talbot A knight who serves under the reign of Henry V and Henry VI. He is the most valorous and feared of English warriors. He personifies all the ideals of a noble warrior and is undaunted by either danger or defeat. Joan La Pucelle A young French woman who claims to be blest and divinely inspired to help France against England. She is a clever military strategist and is responsible for many English defeats. The English capture her and burn her at the stake as a witch. Minor Characters Duke of Gloucester The King’s uncle and the legal Protector of the young Henry and the kingdom till the latter comes of age. Duke of Bedford The King’s uncle and the King’s Regent in France. He had taken a vow before Henry V to bring Dauphin down and his committed to it. Thomas Beaufort or Exeter The King’s great-uncle, and he is the king’s special governor and committed to his safety. As a man of keen intelligence he misses nothing of what goes on around him and worries about the consequences of friction he sees in the English nobility. Henry Beaufort or Bishop of Winchester The King’s great-uncle, and he is an ambitious man who succeeds in bribing the Pope to make him a Cardinal. He is a sworn enemy of the Duke of Gloucester. John Beaufort or Duke of Somerset A nobleman of the House of Lancaster. He chooses a red rose to represent his side in his fight with the Duke of York. Richard Plantagenet or Duke of York The heir of houses of York and Mortimer. He chooses a white rose to signify his side in the quarrel with the Duke of Somerset. Earl of Warwick An English nobleman who supports Richard Plantagenet in his quarrel with Somerset. He picks a white rose to show his support for Plantagenet. Earl of Salisbury An English warrior and a good friend of Talbot. He gets shot at on the walls of Orleans and loses his life. Table of Contents | |
