CHAPTER 8 : MECHANICS OF FLUIDS
Newtonian Mechanics can be extended to any macroscopic system
of particles except when the gravitational field is not very strong, and therefore
the behavior of liquids and gases (fluids) should be amenable to analysis in
terms of Newtonian Mechanics.
8.1 Hydrostatic pressure in a fluid
Pressure in general is defined as force per unit normal area.
To derive the expression for hydrostatic pressure, i.e., pressure
when the fluid as a bulk system is at rest, consider an imaginary
cylinder of fluid in the suspended state in the fluid itself.
