PRACTICE TEST 2

Section VI : Analytical Section

ANSWER EXPLANATIONS.

Answers for 1 - 7

The premises can be represented in this manner:

Name of the staff members: A, B, C, D, E, F, G

I. A is without B. E is without B.
II. C is without D.
III. F is without D then F is without G.

  1. B
It is stated in Ist statement that A is without B, E without B. Therefore A is with E. C and B will be in one office according to statement II and III. F is with G as stated in III so, B is the answer.

  2. D
According to the question if C is with G - as per the III statement as shown in the representation above. Therefore F is with D, C is with G and A is with E. Therefore B is allotted Room No.269.

  3. C
If C is 269, since B is without G, F is without D, therefore A is with E. Therefore the answer is C as it states E as the answer.

  4. D
See the representation I. It clearly shows that C is with either B or C. If it is A and D - then it must be true that C and B or C and E.

  5. E
If B is with G then A, C, E can be assigned to 269. Choice E is perfect.

  6. E
If G is without E, it cannot be true that C is assigned to 269. See the representation above.

  7. A
If G is allotted 269 the three pairs of staff members in two groups must have only one group of office mates. So, the answer has to be A.

  8. E
In choice A, Alan’s name has been missed out. George can attend only when Alan attends. In choice B, Janet’s name is missing, hence both A & B are incorrect. In choices C and D, Fiona’s name has been mentioned while the restrictions states that Fiona cannot attend in Mary’s house. Thus choice E has a group that makes it possible for them to attend on Wednesday at Mary’s house.

  9. D
All the members can attend the meeting on Thursday at Michael’s house without any hurdle.

  10. B
Choice A is incorrect because if it is not at Michael’s house, it is either at Mary’s or Fiona’s house. If it is at Mary’s, Fiona won’t come. Similarly if it is at Fiona’s, Julia won’t come. So, the statement is false as two women are out already and only one i.e. Janet remains. E is irrelevant. Choices C and D are both incorrect. So the choice has to be B.

  11. D
Choice A & B are false as Janet does not come on Tuesday and Friday. In choice C, the statement is false because Julia cannot attend the meeting at Fiona’s place. Choice E is false as it can be clearly seen in the chart.

  12. B
Choice A is false because on Tuesday’s Janet does not attend which followed by the fact that Michael won’t be there. Choices C & E again are false because of the same reason as A. Choice D has Fiona which is false because Fiona does not attend at Mary’s house. Hence choice B is the pair that attends Tuesday meeting at Mary’s house.
