PRACTICE TEST 2 Section I : Verbal Section EXPLANATORY ANSWER :
This sentence has a though extender as its logical structure. Later it also has a thought reverses with words like ‘aggression of profanity’ … is not … or childish. The first blank have word that is capable of being a supportive word to the second blank – assault has to be only on ‘decorum’ not an any of the other choices given in the second line of words – the first blank must have a word synonymous to the word ‘childish’ since it has a negative word ‘not’ before the blank and ‘or’ after the blank. The words of the 1st order in A and D seem to be right. But the second word does not fit into the meaning of the context. The second order in B and C seem to be fitting. But not the word in the 1st order. The sweet, pleasant tones (mellifluous) of the flute succeeded in calming his tense nerves. The first blank of A and C appear to fit in to the context. But the second blank of A does not convey the meaning in the context. The opening words ‘without’ calls for a negative word in the first blank. The first order of the set of the words – almost all of them seem suitable in the context. But they do not bring out the specific context. The second word for the second blank in A, B, and C do not make sense, E makes sense, but ‘colorful’ is for the sight and not for ‘feeling’ "agreeable melancholy" – has to result from the transitoriness of natural beauty and not abstractness or wildness. So D is the answer. The sentence starts with negative meaning, ‘Despite’. Words like emphasize – ‘key for’ give the clue for the second word in the blank. A, B, D and E – in the second order of words do not fit in. Second word choice deciphoring myths, hopes and fears makes better sense than any of the other given choices. No other choice fits in completely. The choice of the second word in the given order plays a predominant role in helping us determine the answer. All the other choices have either of the words letting down in giving a complete sense. Hence A is the answer. |
