She does a course on library science in Chicago for one year and works as a librarian at St. Paul for three years. She goes to live in Gopher Prairie after her marriage to Dr. Kennicott. She visits Minneapolis and another prairie town, Joralemons. She also visits places like Los Angeles, Pasadena, and San Francisco, California. She goes to work in Washington for two years and while she is there Kennicott takes her to Charleston. She then returns to Gopher Prairie to settle down, at last accepting Gopher Prairie as her home.
