Act I, Scene 2

This scene presents Sir Hugh Evans and Simple, Slender's servant, in front of Page's house. Sir Hugh orders Simple to proceed to Doctor Caius' house and deliver a letter to the doctor's servant, Mistress Quickly. The letter carries a message to Mrs. Quickly to urge her support for Slender's courtship of Anne Page.

Notes

This is an extremely short scene, showing a conversation between Evans and Simple. Dr. Caius is a French physician and Mistress Quickly is his servant, who is also "his nurse, or his dry nurse, or his cook, or his laundry, his washer, and his wringer." Evans wants to enlist the help of Mrs. Quickly in furthering the alliance between Slender and Anne Page.
