Table of Contents | Printable Version Mrs. Wilson calls. Baby has a fractured skull and Mrs. Wilson wants to come over and talk to the Kellys about money. Biff Brannon comes with her. She wants the Kellys to pay for all the costs of the hospital and the private room. She will not hear of saving money by putting Baby in a semi-private room. When she has left, the family starts a search for Bubber because Mick has found that he has gone from the tree house. They go to PortiaÂ’s house and find a note from him that he has gone to Florida. Mick realizes that he is trying to trick them and that he is probably headed for Atlanta instead. They go to the Atlanta road and find him. He runs for the car, not realizing it is they, and tries to get away when he does realize it. He screams and cries and wonÂ’t let anyone touch him. Back home, he is hysterical. He screams that he hates everybody. Mick shakes him and tells him she had told him lies about prison, but he wonÂ’t be calmed. The only one who can calm him is Mr. Singer. That night, Mick sleeps with Bubber and tries to comfort him with her love. She holds him as tight as she can and kisses him. She loves him as much as she loves music. She vows never to hit him or tease him again. When she wakes up the next day, he is gone.
