Table of Contents | Printable Version After a Charms class in which Hermione shows up Ron, Ron tells Harry that Hermione’s an unbearable know it all. Hermione overhears Ron saying this and runs off to cry in the girls’ bathroom. That evening, the Halloween feast is disrupted when Quirrell runs into the great hall screaming about a troll having snuck in. All students are led off to their dormitories, but Harry and Ron sneak off to find and warn Hermione, who is still in the girls’ bathroom. On their way to find Hermione, Harry and Ron see Snape sneaking up to the third floor. Harry and Ron then run into troll itself, locking the beast into some room to save themselves. Once the boys realize that they’ve accidentally locked the troll into girls’ bathroom with Hermione, they run in to save her. Harry jumps on the troll’s back, and Ron levitates the trolls club and drops it on the monster’s head. McGonagall, Snape, and Quirrell run into the room to find the trio alongside the knocked out troll. Hermione lies to McGonagall to protect Harry and Ron, and the three grow closer because of the experience. Quidditch season has begun and Harry is preparing himself by reading Quidditch Through the Ages between practices. After Snape takes away Harry’s book, Harry goes to Snape’s classroom to retrieve it and stumbles in upon Snape bandaging up his bloody leg. Harry realizes Snape tried to get past Fluffy the night of the troll attack. At the match against Slytherin, Harry’s broom suddenly goes awry and tries to knock him off. Hermione sees that Snape is staring intently at Harry and muttering under his breath so she assumes Snape is the one cursing Harry’s broom. Hermione runs over to Snape, bowling over Professor Quirrell in the process, and sets fire to Snape’s robe. The curser having been disrupted, Harry’s broom returns to normal and Harry accidentally catches the Snitch in his mouth to win the game. Harry is immediately congratulated by nearly the entire school for beating Slytherin. In Hagrid’s hut after the match, Hagrid accidentally mentions the name “Nicholas Flamel.” At the start of Christmas break, Hermione leaves for home while Harry and Ron stay at Hogwarts for the holidays. Harry and Ron get in little searching for Flamel in the library since they are too busy playing wizard’s chess. On Christmas morning Harry receives a flute from Hagrid, Chocolate Frogs from Hermione, and his dad’s old invisibility cloak from an unnamed giver.
Looking into the Mirror of Erised, Harry sees his parents and extended family. Over the next couple days Harry takes Ron to see the mirror and grows increasingly obsessed over it until Dumbledore confronts Harry in the mirror room. Dumbledore tells Harry that the mirror is being moved and that he should avoid the mirror now that he is familiar with it. Harry distracts himself from the Mirror of Erised by immersing himself in his increasingly grueling Quidditch practices. However, he soon discovers that Snape is refereeing the match, which is especially disturbing considering that SnapeÂ’s curse nearly killed Harry last match. Back in the dorms, Harry re-discovers FlamelÂ’s name on DumbledoreÂ’s Chocolate Frog card. Hermione recognizes the name and looks him up, finding out that he is the maker of the SorcererÂ’s Stone. At the Quidditch match against Slytherin, which Snape is refereeing, Harry is comforted by DumbledoreÂ’s presence in the crowd. In the crowd, Ron attacks Malfoy when Malfoy continues to make fun of RonÂ’s poverty. Neville bravely helps Ron by taking on Crabbe and Goyle. Meanwhile, on the field, Harry grabs the snitch and wins the game in a record five minutes. After the game Harry is happy and popular, but upon putting his broom into the broom shed Harry spies Snape sneaking off towards the forest. Harry follows on his broom and spies on Snape meeting Quirrell in the Forbidden Forest. Snape is pumping Quirrell for information, and Harry sneaks back to the dorms to tell Ron and Hermione that Snape is trying to get Quirrell to give up information on how the Stone is guarded. While studying for their exams, Harry, Ron, and Hermione run into Hagrid. The three students discover that Hagrid is looking up information about dragons and go to his hut to see if he is actually raising a dragon, a severely illegal activity. They pump him for information about the SorcererÂ’s Stone, Fluffy, and his dragon. As Hagrid is telling them about the dragon egg he got, they all realize that Malfoy is eavesdropping at the window. Malfoy runs away from the hut and Harry fears that he will report Hagrid. Table of Contents | Printable Version |
