Chapter 30

Myra returns to Zenith and Babbitt tries guiltily to be a good husband. He even tries to avoid seeing Tanis and her group. However, he is irritable and difficult. Myra detects the change in Babbitt and suggests that they attend a meeting of the American New Thought League. She hopes the group will inspire some of the old Babbitt to whom she was accustomed. After the meeting, however, Babbitt is not responsive. He and Myra argue.

Notes

The point to this scene is that even Myra tries to reach Babbitt and bring him back to his old self. But he is as unresponsive as he was when Virgil tried to reach him.
